This is something I want to start doing for fun. Just take a look back at the last season and give some silly comments and “awards” about what I’ve watched. So without further ado, here we go…
Nominee for Strongest Moe Character of 2013: Yoshino
Worst ED of the Season
I feel like I have to watch a Typical Harem Anime every season. It’s nice to fall back on after dealing with an anime with strong feels or a crazy plot or what have you. Not to mention I just enjoyed the absolutely ridiculous premise behind the anime: MAKE GIRLS FALL IN LOVE WITH YOU SO THEY DON’T DESTROY THE WORLD. Or something like that, close enough.
Also, Yoshino is the most adorable thing I’ve seen since Azusa from K-ON.
Devil Survivor 2: The Animation
Best ED of the Season
Biggest Letdown of the Season
I’m a big fan of Atlus games. Even if I’m part of the lesser informed part of the Megaten fandom - All I’ve played is Persona 3 and 4 and SMT: Devil Survivor 1 - I had high hopes for this anime since it’s an Atlus game. And if it was anything like Devil Survivor 1 the plot should be insane, right?
Eh, no. It was neat and all in the first few episodes but it quickly lost its hype. It wasn’t absolutely terrible by any means; I still wanted to keep watching and find out what happens next. I’m not sure how accurate the anime adaptation is to the anime, but I’d imagine it’d be much more engaging than the anime.
Haiyore! Nyaruko-san W
Most Infectious OP of the Season
"I Should’ve Expected Disappointment" Award
It’s Nyaruko. If you liked the first season you’ll find lots to enjoy about the second season. If you didn’t, you won’t like this season either. The OP for Nyaruko W is also one of those very rare instances where the second season OP is superior to the first season OP.
This anime gets the “I Should’ve Expected Disappointment” Award because I should’ve seen the harem thing coming. It should’ve been visibly inevitable that Kuuko would eventually get feelings for Mahiro. I was disappointed that they gave Kuuko/Mahiro flags; I liked it better when she was exclusively for Nyaruko. On top of that, the number of references in Nyaruko W weren’t as high, nor were they as well executed. Tropes got pretty groan worthy near the end of the series, too.
Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko
Surprising Plot Development Award
Unwanted Ending Award
It’s cute, the series is hilarious, and Tsukiko is best girl.
You’d think it’d just be another Typical Harem Anime, but it breaks away from that with some solid character development and feels with the Cat God messing around with everyone. It’s a delightful romantic comedy that I just wish didn’t end the way it did.
Also cats. I love cats. They’re so adorable.
Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai
Best Waifu of the Season
Dumbest Best Waifu of 2013
KURONEKO WHY DID YOU DO THAT, SERIOUSLY? GOD DAMNIT YOU’RE SO DUMB.
Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru
Best Anime of the Season
Nominee for Best Trap of 2013: Saika Totsuka
This is not your typical romance comedy. The main character’s inner monologues are well written, the voice acting is fantastic, and it absolutely refuses to use all the cliche tropes you expect to get in your typical romance comedy. If you were to only watch one anime per season, this is the one to watch.
I still have Aku no Hana and Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge to finish. I don’t know if I’ll finish Crime Edge, but I do intend to finish Aku no Hana, and this post will be edited when I do.
Best Bemani artist? Best Bemani artist. If you’re not familiar with Nekomata Master, you’re doing yourself a disservice not listening to this track. It’s catchy, beautiful, gorgeous, and upbeat all at the same time.
But holy shit, if you’re trying to defend your reputation (You are, right?) you’re doing a horrible job at it. Your crazy reactions are just continuing to dig yourself deeper into going out of business. No matter how good your product is, nothing can save you from word of mouth.
Will Japan ever run out of ways to make Touhou music freaking awesome? I sure hope not, especially with stuff like this coming out! Never mind the super sexy picture of Sakuya; The beat is solid, the bassline is delicious, and the vocals are very sexy.
